Allan Robertson by golf artist Bob Crofut. A teacher and mentor of Tom Morris, Robertson was a ball maker at St. Andrews and also an excellent player, but passed away before the first Open in 1860. A expert at making "Feathery" golf balls, Robertson was distraught as the Gutta Percha, "Guttie" ball was introduced and did he could to stop the new invention.
